Cycling

The roads though the area are of a bygone age, when white lines and curb stones were only found in towns. Strictly two car width, they meander along old field boundaries in sympathy with the lie of the land, between hedgerows and verges untouched by herbicides and insecticides. Many have no boundaries, and share their space with sheep and cattle. But make sure you have a good map! The area is crossed by the Reivers' Cycle Route.

Track to White Preston, BewcastleWhile bridalways are few and far between, there are many unmade roads and forestry tracks which provide fascinating routes for mountain bikes. On the right is the track to White Preston. Beware that some routes cross bleak, open moorland and fell, where the weather can quickly change, so go well equipped.
