Sadly this still continues in the Bewcastle area, sometimes as often as twice a week, despite it being illegal. Unfortunately the police are too thinly stretched to take effective action and anti-hunt groups often cause considerable stress to farm animals in their reckless pursuit of the hunt. It is hoped that increasing repugnance for hunting will result in it's eventual disappearance, in much the same way as dog-fighting and badger-baiting has largely died out.
