Sorry, but we cannot answer questions about family history. Sometimes the Bewcastle Heritage Society can help over the odd point of reference, but cannot do extensive research on your behalf.

Bewcastle Ancestry Blog

This blog was originally created by Rosemary Dale to document her work on the family history of her grandmother, Maggie Goodfellow Story. Maggie was from the parish of Bewcastle in Cumberland, UK. After it became evident that other family historians were attracted to the site, Rosemary invited them to share their memories and family histories from Bewcastle and the surrounding parishes. And so, it is evolving into a useful research tool for genealogists. If you have information that you would like to share here, please contact Rosemary at

Mike Jackson has carried out an enormous task in bringing together the monument inscriptions form the graveyard and transcribing the church registry to produce a valuable resource to all those researching their border roots.

A full description of each grave, together with a plan of the churchyard showing numbered graves, index of persons, index of places and miscellaneous index, is available on CD in Word, Rich Text and Adobe Acrobat format, for both PC and Macintosh, either to pick up in the church, or by post through our order form.

Mike has also transcribed from the official records all births, deaths and marriages from 1813 to 1916, plus marriage bonds from 1770 to 1824.

The cost is 20 Sterling including postage for orders in the UK, £25 Sterling for overseas orders.
